Wilderness Survival Skill basics

In one day, you can learn the basic skills needed to meet your basic human needs in remote wilderness settings. Learn and practice the skills that not only could save your life, but can be used in your daily routine; forage delicious and healthy foods, build and use functional tools, and create a relationship with the natural world.

Food, shelter, and water. We need these things to survive and fire is a great catalyst to obtaining them. We will head into the valleys of the blufflands and travel back in time to a place where people knew just as much about the flora and fauna around them as we know about the Kardashians and Bieber.

Anyone can do this class. The pathways forged over thousands of years in our brains for these skills are still there. A little mentoring and time practicing in nature will rekindle the nature connection inside all of us. Like riding a bike.

The Experience:
  • Become invisible with stealth training: silent movement and camouflage
  • Practice building fire multiple ways: single match, fire by friction, metal match/magnesium
  • Fire safety & theory: balancing oxygen, fuel, and heat, tinder selection, managing surface area
  • Primitive traps including: rolling snare, deadfalls, pencil snare and more
  • Finding and purifying water
  • Build a survival shelter
  • Compass free navigation by sun
  • Increase your ability to think critically and use your common sense
  • Build self confidence by increasing your self reliance
  • Basic knife safety
  • Learn to identify wild edible and medicinal plants, use safe and ethical harvesting, and of course tasting!
  • Awareness training with Sit Spots
