Winter Survival: Shelter and Warmth

Priority of meeting basic human needs changes from situation to situation. Wintertime in the Midwest however pushes the need of shelter to the forefront of our thought process. In this class we will focus on how to stay warm with proper preparation and also how to stay warm in an emergency survival situation.

There's a large difference between getting warm and staying warm. We will discuss and practice ways that our bodies can be an asset to keeping us warm and alive in the upper midwest winter.

The Experience:
  • Seek out and choose a site for winter survival shelter.
  • Build multiple styles of winter survival shelters.
  • Practice gathering and lighting tinder bundles.
  • Build and maintain your fire.
  • Make fire from ice...really.
  • Clothing and proper winter dress conversation and game.
